With volume sales in excess of one million tons per year, Bayer's Polyurethanes Business Group is one of the leading raw materials and systems producers in this field. Sales of over EURO 3,256 million in 2002 represented 30.2% of the total sales of Bayer's Polymers business area. Polyurethanes are produced at 19 sites around the world - located in Europe, North, Central and South America, Africa and Asia.
The Polyurethanes Business Group's success is based on an intensive customer support service in all parts of the world. The Group has five regional marketing centres and a number of other technical service centers whose staff provide the essential know - how transfer to the regional polyurethane processors.
Polyurethanes are exceptionally versatile, genuine all - rounders with practically unlimited potential. They are manufactured by combining two specially formulated chemical components to make products ranging from rigid and flexible foams through casting compounds to soft and hard elastomers, all of which have a tremendous variety of applications. Its solid materials and a wide variety of foams have a broad spectrum of applications in the electrical engineering, electronics, automotive, furniture and construction industries, thermal insulation, technical components and in the sports and leisure sector.
